Skills

The Digital Thinkers engineers have acquired over the years an impressive number of skills in the real-time embedded systems field. Compiling an exhaustive skill list would be counterproductive and relatively pointless, particularly since the company has switched completely its focus from leading-edge telecom contracting to research and development of disruptive technologies in the field of avionics. Some major areas of telecom expertise, technologies and protocols are listed below (not necessarily in a logical order or format):

Circuit-switched and packet-switched hardware, FPGA and software, DSP speech recognition and processing, DSP telecom channel data acquisition and processing (load balancing, traffic shaping, de/coders), HDTV, commercial satellite communications, NMARSAT, proprietary telecom protocols, proprietary convergence layers.

The application-programming group can help with a similarly large variety of high-level languages and environments (Java, C/C++, MFC, Visual Basic, PowerBuilder), scripting languages (JavaScript, Perl, TCL, UNIX shell), J2EE application server technologies (servlets, JSPs, JSP custom tags, JDBC, JTA, JMS, JavaMail), application servers (WebLogic, WebSphere), Web development technologies (DHTML, CSS, XML/XSL, applets, CGI, Ant), relational databases (Sybase, SQL Server, DB2/UDB, Oracle, Informix, Access), message-oriented middleware (IBM MQSeries, NEON message brokers), on all flavors of Windows, UNIX and OS2 platforms.

People

Digital Thinkers believes that the most important asset of a company is the collective knowledge of its people. In an innovative attempt to keep up with the rapid changes in the high-tech arena, the company offers full reinstatement packages to team members who offer to embark temporarily on contracts with other companies in order to learn new technologies and acquire new skills. This pragmatic approach allows Digital Thinkers to offer its clients a broader range of skills and takes it one step farther in its goal of providing one-stop-shopping services.

Although the company prefers to hire and retain valuable collaborators, the exponential growth-rate required by large contracts in not sustainable in the current economic environment. Digital Thinkers is very well connected in the small world of high-skilled real-time engineers and, for cases where outside talent needs to be used, it maintains an extensive list of individual contractors and similar organizations whose expertise and professionalism are beyond reproach. Although this list of connections is confidential, the company relies on its professional connections to staff contracts of almost any complexity and magnitude.

The company has also formed strategic alliances with a number of organizations with similar culture, processes, skill set and pricing strategies, in a relationship that allows participating groups to tap into each other's talent pool and offer one-stop-shopping services to their clients. The ability to leverage local, on-shore and off-shore resources from a common pool - as well a larger set of vertical expertise - translates into an immediate advantage for the clients, which receive better and more complete services at a lower price.
